NATURAL POSITION (HACHIJI-DACHI)

Also called sizen-tai, this is the base posture for all other postures. From this position you should be able to move quickly to any other position, posture or direction. So, although this position appears static, it is in fact a combat posture, the spirit being permanently alert.

UCHI HACHIJI DACHI is the position which Master Hiruma is currently studying at great depth. Feet pointed a little inwards, body relaxed, arched and leaning forwards. The inclination of the body is controlled by tucking in or sticking out the sacrum and placing the whole weight of the feet on a spot called YU-SEN (FOUNTAIN WHICH SPROUTS ENERGY). So, we´ll try to find a stable posture by studying this foot position, avoiding tension in the toes which should  be lightly touching the floor;  not lifted deliberetely but relaxed. In any position , if the toes grip the floor or are tense this will jeopardize the transition to the next movement or posture, as well as indicating tension. You must concentrate hard in order to "suck" the "ki" out of the earth from this spot; "yu sen" located  in the middle line on the sole of the foot.

Let’s study the position of the body by imagining 3 lines, one is the central line of the body (SEICHUSEN) and the other two ,which are in line with the shoulders, will drop to the feet (YU-SEN).

To change from one stance to another you only have to rapidly join the lines at the point YU-SEN.
